Hier mal ein Kommentar der UNEP ( United Nations Environment Programme),
die auf meine Anfrage sofort reagiert haben:
Dear Mr. XXX,
"Bubinga" = Guibourtia subspecies. The tree grows from West to Central Africa and some species are also native to South America. Used mostly for musical instruments & luxury timber products (furniture, etc). ITTO (International Tropical Timber Organization), FAO ( Food and Agricultural Organisation) or FSC ( Forest Stewardship Council) may have some info on where it is harvested sustainably though we doubt much of it is. On the other hand, certain subspecies may not be threatened at present, though many of its relatives are. Not enough information is known about its status.
If the wood is from Angola (most forests controlled by the military), Cameroon (extremely corrupt place) or Republic of Congo (one FSC concession, some unsustainable practices), chances are very high that it comes from unsustainable sources - Greenpeace has a lot of people looking into Central Africa forestry issues and I would in general trust their opinion on this issue.
We hope this helps.
best regards,
