There was a 12mm snare floating around on eBay classifieds recently, which I talked to member Niles about.
The snare had staves of different widths, the groove of each stave was of different width, sat in a different place on each stave, the staves that were too short were made to fit with some kind of filler (glue, silicone, I'm not familiar with that) and A Nickelworks plastic lift-off was installed on the outside.
All of this on an instrument that, even when used, still scratches or skips the four-digit euro range.
In an American forum someone wrote about the withdrawal that it was possibly installed on the snares in order to be able to see more of the shell.
Classic fanboy move.
There are many fake Brady snares on the market. Made in Australia by people at home using Brady parts. Maybe that was the case with the drum you mentioned. If you have a photo, can I review it for you if you would like?
